Belle Smith
Director Spotlight
An introduction to Los Angeles–based director Belle Smith, where personal work and fashion-driven storytelling intersect.
This Director Spotlight features Belle Smith, an American director and artist whose work is defined by a poetic, fashion-driven approach to storytelling. Shaped by a global upbringing across the United States, Europe, and Asia, Belle’s perspective centers on authenticity, ease, and simplicity, creating work that feels intimate, self-aware, and quietly expressive.
Belle’s practice is informed by her experiences moving between cultures, which continue to shape a visual language rooted in clarity and restraint. Her work often focuses on understated moments, allowing mood and presence to guide the narrative rather than overt spectacle.
She frequently places herself in front of the camera while directing, using her own presence as an extension of the story. This dual role has become an ongoing form of expression for Belle, blurring the line between subject and storyteller and bringing a personal, introspective quality to the work.
With a BA in Film and Television, Belle approaches each project with a strong sense of structure while maintaining a fluid, intuitive process. Her work balances intention with ease, resulting in films that feel composed yet natural.
Currently based between Paris, Los Angeles, and New York, Belle works internationally and has collaborated with global clients including Mercedes, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Augustinus Bader, and Loro Piana. Across both personal projects and fashion-led storytelling, her work remains grounded in authenticity, simplicity, and a quiet confidence.
