The New York Times set out to create a cinematic documentary piece as part of its annual coverage of The Nutcracker, aiming to offer audiences an intimate, behind-the- scenes portrait of the two young leads. The goal was to go beyond the performance and capture the nuance of their daily lives, discipline, and anticipation in the lead-up to opening night.
